OMAHA — The third and final debate between Republican U.S. Rep. Don Bacon and Democratic State Sen. Tony Vargas offered both 2nd District candidates a chance on live TV Sunday to reach the Omaha area’s undecided and persuadable voters.

Those who tuned in to the debate hosted by KETV Omaha saw the second-straight sharp-elbowed debate ripping into this year’s campaign fights about taxes, abortion rights, public safety, immigration and the inaccuracy of some outside advertising.

Bacon, a retired Air Force brigadier general, is seeking a fifth term. He again emphasized his record of targeted investments in national defense and transportation-related infrastructure and his work across the aisle on green energy tax credits.

Vargas, a former member of the Omaha Public Schools board, touted his votes steering federal funds for economic development and passing tax relief backed by the GOP majority in the officially nonpartisan Nebraska Legislature.
